Bishop’s Waltham Town Team asks young people ‘What’s cool?’

Bishop’s Waltham Town Team (BWTT) is working in partnership with Bishop’s Waltham Youth Club (BWYC) to create a fun event for young people which offers them a platform to share their ideas for the future of the town.

The ‘Voice 4 Youth’ event takes places on Saturday 12 November from 3:30-5:30pm at the Jubilee Hall (Little Shore Lane, Bishop’s Waltham) and is aimed at 11-16 year olds from Bishop’s Waltham and the surrounding area. Participants will be given the opportunity to try a range of free activities including inflatable laser tag, tennis and a food stall.

The aim of Voice 4 Youth is to engage with young people in order to learn about their interests and hear their ideas for the future of their community. With the support of BWYC, the event will include an interactive survey, focus groups and discussions. The young people will be encouraged to ‘think big’ as their imaginative and creative ideas could become a reality for Bishop’s Waltham.

Portfolio Holder for Economic Development and Bishop’s Waltham resident Cllr Steve Miller said:

It is essential for the future vitality of town centres that we understand what young people want from them. Through this event, the Town Team is creating an opportunity for young people to shape and influence their community and to have a positive contribution on future activities organised by the Team.

The event is being sponsored by The Southern Co-operative (TSC) as part of a programme of activities funded by TSC and organised by Winchester City Council’s Market Towns Development team. Volunteers from TSC will be organising a hands-on food stand at which young people can make their own wraps using a range of fresh ingredients also supplied by TSC.

Local coaches from Active Academy Tennis will supervise indoor tennis games and Volunteer Youth Workers from Bishop’s Waltham Youth Club will support the focus groups and discussions and will also bring along their popular tuck shop.

Parents are encouraged to drop off and collect their children for this event, they do not need to register their child beforehand. For more information about the Voice 4 Youth event visit www.lovebishopswaltham.com
