People of all ages are being invited to tap into different musical beats from the far corners of the globe at a ‘World Music Festival’ next month, hosted by Hampshire County Council’s Music Service.
At the event, people can try their hand at the fast-paced, upbeat rhythmic playing of the African drums; recreate the infectious carnival sounds of the Brazilian Samba; practise the Japanese Taiko – Martial Arts style drumming; and create fascinating percussion sounds using instruments fashioned in bronze for the Javanese Gamelan.
Other workshops include the Indian Tabla drums, and the Peruvian Cajon (box drum).
For those who prefer to sit back, soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the music, the festival will also play host to ensembles and performances from schools across the county, along with professional musicians performing throughout the day. Food and refreshments will be available from the many stalls serving street food from around the world.
The Hampshire World Music Festival 2016 event will be held on Sunday 8 May, between 9.30am and 3.30pm, at Kings’ School in Winchester.
Tickets cost £7.50 for the full-day (including four workshops), £5 for a half-day (including two workshops) or £2 for access to the performances only (all-day).
Visit the Music Service website for more information and to book tickets.
