Announcing Winchester’s Favourite Independent 2017

This summer, members of the public in Winchester were given the opportunity to vote for their favourite independent businesses in the city as part of a competition organised by Winchester BID (Business Improvement District).

Thousands of votes were received in the search to find Winchester’s Favourite Independent 2017, with the total number of votes up 265% from last year when the competition ran for the first time.

Members of the public were encouraged to vote with the opportunity to win a hamper of prizes, all donated by independent businesses in Winchester. Prizes included goodies from café bar Cabinet Rooms, escape room experience Clue Capers, home décor shop Pavia-Lee and furniture and interiors shop Orchid. The hamper was won by the very lucky Charlotte Harwood.

As for the businesses – the first award was for Winchester’s favourite food and drink business which went to luxury chocolate specialists, Chococo.  The other finalists included comic book themed pie and mash shop,  Piecaramba and Café Winchester. The award for the city’s favourite retailer went to coffee and skate store, Beans and Boards who were just ahead of 2016 winners Jeremy France Jewellers and the Old Fashioned Sweetie Shop. The Service business award went to Rawlings Opticians who pipped Jack Rabbits Barbers and Clue Capers to the post.

The final award for Winchester’s Favourite Independent went to the business which received the highest number of votes across all three categories and this was awarded to Chococo.

Libby Hayes, store manager at Chococo said:

We are thrilled to have been awarded Winchester’s Favourite Independent Business, it is fantastic to be recognised by our customers and it is a great boost for the team who work so hard to make Chococo a brilliant place to visit.

Paul Spencer, who organised the competition this year said:

Winchester BID would like to thank everyone who voted in the competition and we congratulate all of the winners and finalists – they should all be proud to know that they are very much loved by their customers and clients and are among the city’s favourite independent businesses!
