A teacher from Andover has been selected as a winner in a national competition by construction toy company K’NEX. K’NEX is used in classrooms across the UK to bring to life Science, Engineering, Technology and Maths (STEM) concepts, and the Teachers Build Futures campaign asks pupils to nominate teachers who make learning fun.
Mrs Collins, a teacher at Wherwell Primary School, was nominated by Year 2 pupil Tom Hanley. In his nomination, Tom said:
My favourite subject is maths and I have a passion for construction because I like designing new contraptions! I think you should pick my teacher Mrs Collins because she never fails us. When we get something wrong, she helps us learn from the mistakes we made.
Head Teacher Andy King adds:
This award is very well deserved by a first class teacher! I am glad Tom will receive a prize as well because he not only works hard at school but also does a great deal to help others through various fundraising initiatives.
Mrs Collins was surprised with news of her K’NEX Teachers Build Futures award during an assembly last week. She was presented with a K’NEX Education kit for her class to enjoy and Tom was presented with a K’NEX Thrill Rides Double Doom Roller Coaster.
